Really?? Am I expecting too much?

OK - so today I volunteered at Hunter's Cub Scout Day Camp. I wasn't with Hunter's group, but he was fine with that, so I was fine with it. When I was told that I was going to be with the Webelos...I was cool with that. I mean, these are the oldest cub scouts - so this should be a fun day. These boys are going into the 4th/5th grades - and most have been scouts since the 1st grade. This should be a piece of cake.

Um...no. This group of boys was the most disrespectful I've ever come across. Now, they weren't fighting or using horrible language (tho', there were a couple of times). They just flat out didn't listen. They spoke over the leader, they completely ignored instruction and they just flat out didn't give a flip what anyone in authority said. Now, I would expect two or three boys in a group to be this way. But this was EVERY.SINGLE.BOY in our group. There were 12.

How does this happen? Why are kids being raised to not give a rip about respect?

So frustrated...and sad...and DETERMINED to raise my kids to be respectful!

It's a whirlwind of activity...or will be tomorrow!

So, today is probably the last semi-restful, semi-relaxing day to be had for the next two months. I still have to get laundry done, but I'm planning to chill out as much as I can!

Beginning tomorrow: Cub Scout day camp starts for Hunter. I'll be driving the boys there and back nearly every day - with the exception of Tues. and Wed. mornings. It's a 35 min. drive one way. I will have to have Tanner and Lizzie to the sitter early - take the boys and get back to pick them up. Its back in the afternoon to do it again!! A plus for the two youngers: it's play date central this week for them. Thursday, we (Lizzie, Tanner and I) will spend the whole day at the camp volunteering...should be fun! I hope!!!

In between all the driving, I'm working on getting the house ready for company coming in next Sunday. Can't wait to see Bruce, Andrea and the boys!! While Bruce and Andrea are here, I still have to get ready for our vacation - so it will be laundry, laundry, laundry! And we have to determine what else we need to take, besides our clothing!

Then it's off to WV!! WHOOHOO! Family Reunion...we're super stoked! Jeremy has to leave on that Thursday headed to ????, hmm..I'm not even sure where...somewhere for work. The kid and I will leave early Sunday morning headed home - my first solo drive home with the kids. Should be interesting. Probably a good thing we're splitting it into two days! Jeremy will be gone during that next week.

Then it's Bible School the next week. Schmitz visit the following week - and then it's two weeks until we move.

Ok, I'm tired just typing it all up...I guess all this rain has been a good thing - it's kept us at home and rested up.

The Possibilities are ENDLESS!

I've pretty much got the olders schooling stuff figured out - we'll be using Abeka for most of the curriculum - throwing in Handwriting Without Tears for Lizzie's printing -and probably Hunter's cursive (not totally sure about the cursive, yet - may just stick with Abeka??)

We'll be tackling Science and History as a group. I'll have to adapt for Lizzie (we'll use 3rd grade stuff), but really can't do that until we actually have the curriculum in hand, so we'll get to that.

Tanner will be the interesting one - I'm hoping he just sponges off of them on a lot of this stuff, but of course, there are the basics we need to be sure to get covered. And there are SO MANY ways to do it - deciding HOW is what's holding me up!

I'm leaning heavily toward Letter Of The Week -for the alphabet anyway. I believe there's some math thrown in there as well. This program looks fairly simple and like a lot of fun! I think he will enjoy it!

I'm curious to see how it will be schooling them all in the same room - Tanner's will be a lot more hands on - chatting and such..we may have to make a little spot elsewhere or him and me!

When I was looking into this last year, I had barely scratched the surface of information...well, I've scratched it now, but I've barely removed the first layer...there is SO much out there!!

Ok, done with my rambling for tonight.

need.sunshine.

This weather is sucking the life right out of me.

That is all.

It's a Family Reunion

I just wanted to post about our upcoming vacation - b/c I'm super excited and I like to talk about it....so read on or not - your choice!

We are leaving in about 3 weeks headed to West Virginia. I CANNOT wait!!

Last year, my parents and kids and my husband, myself and kids went to West Virginia to visit my brother Bill. We had a GREAT time. We rented a cabin for 12 and stayed for a week. SUCH a great trip!! We hated to leave! When we were sharing with my other two brothers what a good time we had - and that we wanted to go back in two years for a family reunion - they didn't want to wait 2 years! So - we scheduled this trip - and it's finally almost here!!

We rented two cabins this time - as there will be around 23 of us. This will be the first time (I think) that we will all be together at the same time for any length of time. I can't wait for the cousins to get to play together.

The ages of the kids range from 3 months to 17 years! I remember family reunions on my dad's side years ago and they were SO fun!! I hope the kids have as much fun as we always did!!

Well, I guess that's all for now...I'm sure I'll have much to say about the trip once we're home.

A Fun Sunday!

This morning we decided to hit up IKEA. There are things I like about IKEA and things I don't. The last time I went (which was the FIRST time I went), I left feeling very overstimulated. There is SOOO much stuff! We got some good ideas and have plans to head back after we get moved. It's be nice if we won the lottery first, of course!!

We also hit up a furniture store...we're looking for a new couch. Wow, they're expensive - and they vary so much. If we got "the perfect one", it'd break the bank...but hopefully, by the time we have to have it, we'll be able to find "the perfect one for us".

The part of our day that ended up the most fun - a new vehicle. We've been talking about trading in the van for a while...and it just worked out that today was the day to do it. We decided on a Subaru Forrester. It's a cute crossover - with the "get up and go" that we'll need where we're going to be living. It's great in the wintry elements that we have here - and add that to the traffic we can run into - seems it was a good choice!

Anyway - all in all, our day was pretty productive. YAY!!

information overload

When we first decided to home school this fall, my thoughts were just..."yeah, ok, we'll give it a shot and see how it goes". I was not regretting the decision, but I was more just "ok" with it. After doing some research and discovering what seems like EVERYTHING there is to discover (and knowing I've only scratched the surface), I'm so excited about this new adventure that I'm ready to start YESTERDAY!

But it is major information overload!! There is so much available that it's hard to even know where to begin. Thankfully, I have chosen a curriculum - if I was waffling on that, I'd be in major trouble!! And I've chosen to use the workbox system - which is a HUGE reason why I'm so excited and ready to get started! But there's so many other things to do out there! Learning games, supplies, etc. One of my fears is doing too much. I don't want to burn out...me or the kids. So, I'm trying to rein it in....

Anyway - this is where I'm at these days...lots of reading, lots of "bookmarking favorites", lots of seaching...but I'm loving it. Let's hope I'm still loving it in January!!

distractable-much?

Or just don't listen - in this person's case, often both!

So, I just sent Hunter upstairs to get dressed for our outing today. We are going to the Public Library's Summer Reading program kick-off. It's going to be held outside - it's MUGGY and pretty warm today. I said: Shorts and a t-shirt. Specifically!! What does he come down in? lined wind pants and a long-sleeve t-shirt! LOL Oh my! What am I going to do with this kid?

where does he put it?

Ok - I knew that one day Hunter's appetite would increase...just didn't think it would be yet. The boy wants to eat all the time! I don't know what to do with him.

I think that alot of it is boredom hunger, so I'm trying to encourage drinking lots of water and eating lots of fruit. I'm hoping that as soon as the weather improves, we'll be able to get out more and his thoughts won't always be on food!! ;)

Anyway, just some mindless rambling from me - and a request for healthy snack ideas!!

Life in the Scott Household

Well, we're trying to enjoy our summer here in New Hampshire. Unfortunately, it doesn't really feel like summer here. It's been raining for the past couple of weeks -and hasn't made it out of the 60's. Oh well - I'm sure in August, I'll be praying for rain. Isn't that just like a human, never satisfied?

School is finally out!! Our last day was last Friday, June 19th. I thought it would never end - but now I'm wondering why I was in such a hurry? LOL I'm hearing alot of "I'm bored!" and "What can I do?". Also, plenty of arguing among the siblings!! I've been printing out worksheets left and right to keep them busy! We're heading to the Summer Reading Program tomorrow that the library is putting on. Hopefully, it won't rain!! And hopefully, it will help to keep us busy!

Lots going on in the next couple of months! Hunter has Cub Scout camp coming up - 7/6-10. I'll be doing the driving for the carpool - should be interesting! Lots of driving and have to come up with sitters for the two littles!
The week after that we get to enjoy the Slawson family for several days! YaY! I'm super excited to see them!
The very next week, we're headed to West Virginia for our Family Reunion. We've been looking forward to this all year!! I am so stoked to see all of my brothers and their families, my 2 little sisters and my littles brother - all at the same time. It's been TOOO long!!

We also have VBS at the beginning of August - and then we move at the end of August!

Moving? Again? Yes!
After deciding to home school, we decided that it would be beneficial to get closer to Jeremy's office, for when he's actually in town. A 20 minute commute is much better than a 50 minute commute! We went back and forth on this decision for a while, not sure if it was a good idea to take the kids away from friends...but really, we were already, since we were home schooling. Also - this move gets us out of our 3rd floor apartment! I'm SOOO ready for that!

Well - I guess that's our latest! I'm planning to slant this blog towards home schooling, so that's what most of my posts will be about from now on. Watch for my first blog - on workboxing. I'm totally sold on this and can't wait to get it started!!

Until next time!!

Our Summer Begins...

So, it's been 6 months since I posted. I'm so not good at this!! But I'm going to try to start doing it again - mostly for myself, to help me keep track of what we're doing. Now that I'm trying to scrapbook, I guess I should journal too...We'll see how long it lasts...

Tanner...what can I say?

One of these days he's totally going to embarrass me - in the grocery store, or church, or school - but for now, when it's at home - it's just down right funny:

Tanner and Dad are sitting on the couch, each at opposite ends.

Tanner: Dad, do you smell any gas?
Dad: No.
Tanner: I do.
Tanner moves right next to Dad.
Tanner: Dad, do you smell gas now?
Dad: Yes.....(gross look on his face)
Tanner: I farted (evil grin and laugh)

I blame his father.

Ringing in 2009...

...ok, more like whispering in 2009. Our New Year's Eve proved quite uneventful and very quiet! We didn't even watch the ball drop! I was actually in bed reading (an awesome book, btw!) when 2008 became 2009. Jeremy was at the kitchen table working on his laptop and said, Happy New Year, to which I replied, Happy New Year. We didn't even kiss. LOL We're so old. Or maybe we're just boring.

We usually do up New Years here in our home - and this year, while maybe more subdued, we still had a good time! Yesterday, we munched on Rice Krispie treats shaped into flowers, butterflies, circles, teddy bears, stars and hearts. We also had quesadillas...mmmmm...
The kids each received two shirts/sweaters this year. Hunter got a Star Wars Clone Wars long sleeve tee and zip hoodie. Tanner got a Star Wars Clone Wars long sleeve tee and Alvin & the Chipmunks long sleeve tee (Tanner LOVES Alvin & the Chipmunks movie!). Lizzie got a sparkly pink sweater w/ hood and a Tinkerbell long sleeve tee. (can you tell I love long sleeve tees?) Today, Daddy surprised us by getting Hunter a Remote Control monster truck, Lizzie an Easy Bake Oven and Tanner a giant mac truck with hot wheels type cars and a new Indiana Jones sword! It's been fun!! We also surprised the kids with movie tickets to Disney's Bedtime Stories. A fun, CLEAN movie!

All in all - a great start to the New Year!!!
Happy New Year to all!!
