A Review of The Sing Off

I'm sitting here watching the finale of The Sing Off - ahhh....that feels good on my ears!!!!

I am anxious to find out who wins!! Here's my world renowned (not sure I spelled that right! LOL) BRIEF reviews of the groups:

Committed: AMAZING talent. These guys are just GOOD. Winning or not, I see these guys with a record deal. I was excited to learn that these guys are gospel singers, however, I have been a little disappointed that they seem to have compromised a bit in song choice. It is my hope that these guys go back to their roots when this competition is over.

Jerry Lawson & Talk of the Town: Wow! These guys are just wonderful! They are the real deal - as I heard someone refer to them! I think they have had trouble stretching their...style. But it's an a cappella competition and they're an a cappella ORIGINAL - so their style is THE style. They shouldn't have to stretch! :)

Backbeats: Love this group...I love that these "kids" really seem to have a LOVE of music. They are great performers!! Joanna has an amazing voice! I thought they did "If I Were a Boy" better than Beyonce'.

STREET CORNER SYMPHONY: Yes, I'm yelling! This is by far my favorite group and my pick for the winners. Too bad I didn't vote, so I guess if they don't win, I'll not be able to complain! I just think they are spectacular. And they also appear to have a sincere appreciation for the music. I LOVED their performance of Hey Soul Sister - as a whole the song was awesome, but that part right after the bridge where they made it sound like the record was sliding/skipping/something...and then it righted itself. AWESOME!!!!! Sigh...I want their album NOW!

Staying tuned for the winner!!!!!!!!!

Edited to add:
BEST collaboration of the night: Neil Diamond, SCS and Committed! WOW - that was GREAT!! By FAR the best!

I missed the whole thing because of Dan's b-day party!! Would love to find it somewhere and watch the entire program! I found a website called "Tubular, Blogging TV--one show at a time" to find out who won. Here is what I posted/commented on their story:

"I felt from the beginning that this group would win, but am a little disappointed, wondering if they lost some of their "committed-ness" by going secular. Gospel music genre has a large arena for a cappella music and it is some of the most beautiful. I hope they return to their roots for their recording!"
Wonder if the members of groups ever read blogs like that???

Ok,I just watched it on Hulu. I couldn't read your blog until I watched the finale'
I agree with you prolly 99%. I think you are right on with your assessment of the groups. Only thing I slightly (lovingly) differ in opinion on(you're asking right??? ;) ) Is Committed's song choices. I don't actually remember them all, and I think I missed an episode; but seems to me like the judges gave them a certain group/song/genre/style each time they competed right? IMHO that does make it slightly more difficult to remain 'gospel.' Don't get me wrong, they raised the roof on the very first show, and they sang gospel then! I KNEW they were amazing. But if the judges want to see how well you adapt/have the talent to do other genres that may just be part of the competition.
In conclusion, I certainly hope they go back to/stick with their gospel music.

I believe you are right that they had certain parameters they had to stay in and I agree that that makes it difficult to stay "gospel"...and I 100% agree that they were AWESOME!. Sometimes their body movements and facial expressions didn't help with the song choices...and while they maybe didn't have many choices in song, they certainly had a choice in how they performed it. :)

That said, as far as talent goes, Committed deserved to win just as much as SCS. Committed is extremely talented and I believe will go far!!! And I don't think that SCS will suffer from not winning! I believe that they will get a record deal offer (or 2 or 3!) for sure!

An aside on Committed - well, more on the judges when Committed sang: I was really disappointed with the way the judges chose to react to their singing. I just felt like the judges were purposely choosing to use inappropriate language/descriptions of their performances...Obviously, thats not Committed's fault...

Overall - I thought the show was FANTASTIC and hope that they have a Season 3!!!

Honestly, I'm not sure if really even saw how they(Committed) danced, or anything. I was mostly just listening I believe. I tend to surf the web while listening. So, I'm sure you are correct on that. :)
AND although I didn't know notice the comments from the judges too much(honestly I didn't feel they were very good at critique-ing...I mean EVERY.single.song can't be perfect right???), I WAS appalled at some of the comments that the girl made. Offended actually. Half the time I left the room for a snack when the judges talked anyway. Like I said, I was impressed with them. (judges)
Anywho, I hope there's a season 3 too! :)
Take care, and thanks for saying all the stuff I'm too lazy to say! bwahahahaha

AAAAAHHH, I meant I was NOT impressed with the judges, not I was impressed.
Ok, I'll stop cluttering up your blog with comments now.
